AUSTRALIAN PHYSIE AND DANCE DELIVERS EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM
The Australian Physie and Dance Association (APDA) has recently implemented a new and exciting early childhood program targeted at three to five year olds with a focus on introducing young girls to the discipline of Physie and dance in a nurturing and fun environment.
APDA Head of Choreography, Katie Richardson spoke of the program, saying “the APDA Tiny Tots syllabus is evidence-based and considers each stage of development from 3 to 5 years, inspiring and preparing our Tiny Tots for a future in performing and dance”.
APDA’s Tiny Tots program will be rolled out nationally with the program already being implemented in APDA affiliated Clubs across the country.
“Becoming an APDA Tiny Tot is an exciting opportunity for little ones to develop gross motor skills and musicality, and discover movement, body awareness, and a passion for dance” Ms Richardson said.
“The program teaches a variety of dance styles, including the fundamentals of ballet, modern dance and Physie”. This is a preparatory syllabus, which teaches our Tiny Tots integral movement skills and dance technique”.
APDA Marketing & Communications Manager Claire Blomfield said initial program results had been positive, with the target age-bracket enjoying the new routines, fun and varied music choices and especially the introduction of props and costumes into their classes, allowing them to stay engaged and active week to week.
“The APDA Tiny Tots program aims to encourage social skills and self-esteem, while introducing young girls to physical activity, which hopefully sets them up to make healthy lifestyle choices as they grow older” Ms Blomfield said.
Not only are children able to come along to a class and enjoy a Teacher-led program, but registered Tiny Tot Members also receive a DVD so they can continue the fun at home.
